Now more than ever, first-generation individuals are embarking and succeeding in spaces that traditionally have been challenging to access and navigate. We aim to support this movement by addressing knowledge, achievement, and opportunity gaps. Our goal is to redefine the normative narrative assumed by the first-generation ‘label’. By providing our first-generation community with the necessary tools and skills to mobilize and sustain a more rigorous human experience, we aim to change the life trajectory and worldview of first-generation individuals. The FIRST-GEMS Consortium will generate equity, mentorship, and support for first-generation individuals!
Mission
First-generation individuals will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in transformational information that will influence and hone life skills and help foster prosperous futures. Our purpose is to:
Provide ‘accessible’ information necessary for transformational change;
Fill in the knowledge and opportunity gap;
Network to develop social and human capital;
Empower the first-generation community to succeed.
